Royal Hobart Show
Held annually in the month of October at the Royal Showground in
Glenorchy, The Royal Hobart Show highlights the rural community life of
Tasmanians. This event allows community groups, individuals, various
businesses and the government to come together to showcase their
produce, products, wares, services and abilities for a fun filled
four-day weekend. Always ending the fourth Saturday in October, this
incredible event has something to offer visitors of every age group.

With events such as wood chopping and livestock judging, the competitive
nature of the Aussie’s come out loud and clear as everyone puts their
best foot forward. This is a fabulous way to experience what country
life is all about, in a relaxed carnival type of atmosphere.
Everything from fashion and produce to alpacas and horses will be
showcased. Not only will you get to see the local farm life up close but
an interesting array of domesticated dogs and cats will be looking for
ribbons and trophies as well. Horse events will include free carriage
rides pulled by the amazing Tas Draught Horses. Take pictures of these
magnificent animals for memories that will last long after the revealers
have gone home for another year.
Local farmers will have their best produce for judging and for sale,
with lots of tasty tidbits for your tongue to savor. Great choices of
food always seem to be enhanced when you can have a good wine to go with
it. This weekend offers the chance to taste local and regional wines at
a variety of locations. Entertainment of course is on the menu as well.
Live entertainment for adults include music concerts, fashion shows and
of course, wine tasting. The children, always an important part of rural
life, have multiple entertainment venues to keep them occupied
throughout the weekend.
The Great Aussie Bush Show offers a spectacular audience participation
performance as well as Jackaroo Jack, Kenny Kangaroo, Carla Koala, and
many others who will be singing, dancing, and having a wonderful time
entertaining children ages under 1 to over 100. Another highly attended
and anticipated event is the Racing Pigs. Everyone loves to watch as
they race their way to the finish line. The little ones can also visit
the petting zoo and touch the lambs, pigs, ducks and so many other
critters.
The Royal Agricultural Society of Tasmania holds the Royal Shows in
cities and towns throughout the state and this is by far the largest.
One of the things that makes this event so spectacular is the show bags
and number of cottage industry items offered for sale. Amazing
chocolates, fairy floss and dagwood dogs will be on hand to sooth every
sweet tooth and hunger pain that one may happen upon over the weekend. |
